Preparing for Your Trip to the Archives

Preparing for Your Trip to the Archives In-Person

Are you planning a trip to perform in-person research involving rare and unique materials? Time in the reading room is precious. This workshop will help you to plan so that you can make the most of your visit. Afterwards you'll be able to answer questions such as:

  • How do I identify special collections that have materials related to my research?
  • Do I need to contact special collections staff before I arrive?
  • How do I take photos or notes so that later I can write about and cite these materials?

The workshop will open with advice for planning your research visit. Then you will practice handling, describing, and photographing a range of formats, including manuscripts, artifacts, photographs, scrapbooks, and newspapers. Finally, you will practice using Tropy to organize and describe photographs of researched material.

Note: When you register, you'll be added to the wait list. You'll be notified two or more days in advance if you're fully registered for the workshop. Until then, save the date and time on your calendar!
